During the spring semester of 2015, the University of Utah's Chapter of M.E.Ch.A. will be hosting the 22nd annual Chicana/o Latina/o Youth Leadership Conference in the A. Ray Olpin University Union on February 22, 2017. This year's theme is "Resistir es Sobrevivir," (Resitance is Surviaval). During this conference, Latina/o high school and junior high school students will have the opportunity to attend workshops on topics such as leadership, education, community, health, and culture. They will receive information about university admissions, financial aid and scholarships and become familiar with the programs offered at the University of Utah. Students will reflect on the importance of higher education in our communities, learn how to make healthy life choices, and gain cultural awareness. They will also be introduced to a community of Latina/o students at the University of Utah and to opportunities for involvement in its student groups. In addition, this conference allows us to continue the paramount tradition of student leadership development among M.E.Ch.A. students, empowering candidates for future leadership positions. Through this conference, prospective as well as current Latina/o students of the University of Utah prepare to become the future leaders of our community.
